Harrowing Flights in Afghanistan, Cave Exploring in Oman, Self-Defense Training in Djibouti, Mountain Climbing in Yemen, Running Class Four Rapids in Jordan…and Much More
NEW YORK – September 5, 2007 - Dr. Bob Arnot, former NBC and CBS correspondent, resumes his worldwide travels to the most precarious destinations on Earth for the second season of Dr. Danger. Premiering on MOJO Wednesday, October 17 at 10:00pm, ET/PT, this compelling eight-part series, filmed entirely in high definition, continues on from last season’s expedition through tumultuous regions in Africa to this year’s guided mission into the formidable Middle East. Countries visited include Afghanistan, Djibouti, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen.
With his flack jacket, stethoscope and sidearm, Dr. Bob dives into the pivotal hotbeds around the Middle East. He embeds with American soldiers serving in Afghanistan and while there, interviews aid workers whose daily efforts and lives are perpetually threatened. He reunites with an Iraqi friend/refugee in Syria who has recently escaped with his family. Then traveling to Yemen, he hikes one of the country’s highest peaks where a chance encounter with a gun-toting local has Bob practicing his sharp shooting.
Dr. Danger may not save the world, but Dr. Bob’s personal insight into this volatile region is what sets the series apart. He has unique access to the area through his local contacts, friends and fellow aid workers. Dr. Danger brings viewers along to share his exciting and challenging experiences including exploration of some of the region’s awesome natural wonders.
Dr. Danger: The Middle East’s eight episodes are -
Afghanistan - Embedded with the 82nd Airborne: Dr. Bob looks at the local conflict through the eyes of two American soldiers: an enlisted man and a commissioned officer. Dr. Bob joins the troops on air patrols, interactions with locals and a mission to incinerate a marijuana crop allegedly grown by insurgents.
Afghanistan - NGO Experience: Dr. Bob gets a first hand look at the humanitarian side of conflict when he meets with staffers from World Vision and Save the Children. He assists on outreach programs being conducted in some of Afghanistan’s most remote and unstable regions and visits the homes of some of the people these organizations are trying to save.
Djibouti - Extreme Heat: Under the relentless glare of the North African sun, Dr. Bob is invited to meet with the Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), which works to prevent conflict and promote local stability. When he loses his luggage, he re-supplies at the soldier’s camp store. He helps teach English to neighboring residents and learns self-defense moves from a seasoned Marine.
Jordan - Rippin’ It Up: Dr. Danger’s full throttle adventure takes him to Jordan’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders: the archeological site of Petra where “Indiana Jones” found the temple of the Holy Grail; mountain biking through the spectacular Wadi Rum; sandstone scrambling to the world’s highest natural rock bridge and a watery trek through the spectacular Mujib Nature Reserve.
Oman - Humiliation and Defeat: Dr. Bob pushes himself to the limits as he tackles 4x4 driving over two-story sand dunes, a wild “zipline” ride across a precipitous gorge and tubing in the Gulf of Oman (with a company of blood-sucking leeches nearby). He gets a lesson in humility while fishing with locals and faces a 500 foot free rappel into one of the world’s deepest caves.
Saudi Arabia - Pray and Play: the Rise of Islamic Tourism: Dr. Bob is hosted by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the Secretary General of the Supreme Commission of Tourism.. In this country known more for it’s pilgrims than for perilous adventure travel. Bob pilots an F16 with the infamous Saudi Hawks, goes deep sea diving and takes a glider ride over some breathtaking terrain.
Syria - Old vs. New: Dr. Bob shows the MOJO audience a country which has one foot planted firmly in the past and one in the future. In Damascus, the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth, Bob reunites with an old friend and Iraqi refugee who, with his family, had escaped from his homeland with over one million other refugees. Then in Aleppo, Bob shops till he drops in one of the greatest marketplaces in the Middle East.
Yemen - Men Gone Wild: Dr. Bob visits capital city Sana’a where he immerses himself in the culture. In a visit to Old Town he’s encouraged to sample some of the local food favorites. Then, fully outfitted in traditional Yemeni garb, Bob sets off for a hike up one of the country’s highest peaks where a chance encounter with a gun toting local has Bob practicing his sharp shooting. Things take a turn for the worse when Bob takes an unexpected and dramatic tumble down the side of a mountain.
