You might compare Primal Scream to the Rolling Stones: svelte Bobby smacks of snake-hipped Mick, the Stones have been rocking-out for like ever and the Scream have already clocked up over twenty years. Headed by former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer Bobby Gillespie, Primal Scream's first album "Sonic Flower Groove" was released in 1987, with a sound influenced by "primal scream therapy theory". However, it wasn't until their third album "Screamadelica" released in 1991, that the Scottish psychedelic rockers gained massive commercial success. The following year, Bobby and the boys won the Mercury Music Prize and in 1998 Q magazine readers voted Screamadelica the 27th greatest album of all time! "Riot City Blues" the band's 9th studio album, is officially released on 5th June and features a number of guest performances, including Will Sergeant of Echo and the Bunnymen, Warren Ellis from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and some beautiful backing vocals from The Kills' Alison Mosshart.
