Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado

Here's a short history of Nelly Furtado: a relationship drop at a bus stop led the teeny bop from hip hop into soulful pop. But there's so so much more to the feisty British Colombian. Nelly Furtado has recently admitted that as a teenager she longed to be a rapper before breaking up with a former boyfriend. "He broke up with me at the bus stop on Canada Day. He said, 'Yo, let's squash this s**t,' as I cried and the bus drove away. I quit rapping after that." As fate would have it Furtado seems to be having the last laugh; in 2002 she won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal having sealed 4 Juno Awards in 2001 for Best New Solo Artist, Best Songwriter, Best Producer and Best Single for "I'm Like a Bird". Her new album 'Loose' marks a return to her R&B / Hip Hop routes, and after working with big names including Pharrell Williams, Nellee Hooper, Track & Field and Timberland, it's bound to be yet another huge commercial success.
