Lemar

Lemar

Born in London, Lemar Obika is the son of Nigerian immigrants whose big break came courtesy of Fame Academy, a popular British reality show/ talent competition. He finished third, but his strong renditions of R&B classics caught the eye of English soul veteran Beverly Knight, who then invited him to duet onstage at the Hammersmith Apollo. Recognizing Lemar's incredible potential, Sony Records quickly signed the young star to an amazing five record deal. The 2002 single, "Dance With U" went all the way to number two on the British charts, and Lemar's been on a roll ever since, breaking the Top 10 six times in five years.  In 2006, he released The Truth About Love, which unites him with fellow British soulster Joss Stone, among other R&B and rap notables. It's been his most successful album to date, making it to number three on the UK album chart.
