Corinne Bailey Rae

Corinne Bailey Rae

Admitting to a love of L7 (the infamous all female rockers who once revealed more than a tuneless racket on national television, by performing without knickers) is not something you'd necessarily expect from the demure Leedsonian Corinne Bailey Rae. The songstress is currently being championed as Britain's answer to Billie Holiday, and if her history is anything to go by, she's pretty far from your average soul diva. After a taste of limelight in lesser known indie band Helen "What can I say? We were 15 years old, and thought that Helen was a cheeky, indie kind of thing to do" Corinne gained a degree at Leeds University before work at a jazz club re-ignited the proverbial creative fire. Last year she was signed by EMI after a hard slog mastering the craft of song, "I love classic songs: because they are so pure and succinct".
