Considering its neighbors are Israel, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, the bombs don't fall quite so often in Jordan. Aside from a few major explosions in some of Amman's luxury hotels, the country is a fairly safe place to travel. That said, look out for some of the desert's deadly little critters and a few other pesky hazards.
Be Arachnophobic: Without the threat of scorpions and pit vipers, a dig in the desert might as well be an afternoon in the sandbox. A sting is painful, and sometimes lethal. Wear sturdy shoes and watch where you put your hands.
Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride: Mayhem, anarchy, and total chaos are the rules of the road in Jordan and especially in Amman. Stop signs and yield signs are there for decorative purposes - drivers pass at any time from any direction and turn signals are a novelty. Definitely wear your seatbelt and maybe even some protective headgear.
The only Guide you really need: Guidebooks might give you hints on hotels and where to get a decent meal, but god knows what you'll miss if you don't bring along a Holy Bible. Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan and Moses gazed upon the Promised Land from atop Mount Nebo. This is the setting for the greatest story ever told, plus you never know when you might need an extra hand, especially out on those roads.
